Streamy Awards Finds a New Home at the Orpheum Theatre

The First Annual Awards Ceremony occurred a little over a year ago, and the Second Annual Awards Show is just around the corner. And, like any developing organization still in its infancy, the Streamys is prone to wild, unexpected spurts of growth.

In 2010 the Streamy Awards received over 1.5 times as many submissions across nearly double the number of web series as the year before. The amount of enthusiasm and participation on behalf of the web TV industry has far exceeded anyone’s expectations. It’s because of this increased amount of interest and demand that we’ve had to make a few last minute changes.

The Streamy Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April 11 will now take place at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, California. Don’t get us wrong. It’s not that we don’t love the Music Box, it’s just with the heightened interest in this year’s Streamys, we quickly realized we needed a venue that could accommodate more of web television’s finest.

The Orpheum is a beautiful venue that originally opened its stage in 1926. Since then, it’s been host to everything from Judy Garland vaudeville acts and Aretha Franklin concerts, to episodes of American Idol and the Emmy Awards. We’re very excited to call it home for the 2010 Streamy Awards and we hope you’ll be excited, too.
