International Academy of Web Television Names Inaugural Chairman and Board of Directors
Michael Wayne, CEO of DECA, to Chair Newly Formed Board of Web Television Academy
Los Angeles, CA – December 14, 2009 — The International Academy of Web Television™, the governing body of the Streamy Awards®, and an independent non-profit organization founded to promote and recognize excellence in online entertainment programming, has announced today that it has formed a new board of directors, chaired by DECA Chief Executive Officer, Michael Wayne.
“Just as the Academies of Motion Picture and Television Arts and Sciences had humble beginnings, so do we. While our industry may be in its early stages, it is growing at an exponential rate,” said Wayne. “I’m excited to join an outstanding group of online content pioneers on the IAWTV board of directors. 2010 promises to be a phenomenal year for the International Academy of Web Television with the 2nd Annual Streamy Awards and the continued expansion of our membership.”
Wayne, who is co-founder and CEO of digital media and entertainment company DECA, previously served as Vice President, Strategic Alliances for Sony Pictures Digital and Sony Pictures Television. Kaplan will serve as Vice Chair, George Ruiz as Secretary, and Jamison Tilsner as Treasurer. Brady Brim-DeForest will serve as interim Executive Director. The board has ultimate fiduciary responsibility for the organization and will work in tandem with the Board of Governors which chair member Peer Groups and organizational committees including Governance, Membership and Industry Standards. As part of its community outreach this fall, the Academy held its first annual member meeting at the Digital Hollywood conference in Los Angeles, as well as a New York City based meeting in November. The Streamy Awards voting season begins February 2010.
