Streamy Award Nominees for Best in Web Television Announced
Battlestar Galactica: The Face of the Enemy, Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible, The Shatner Project, Childrens’ Hospital, and The Guild receive multiple nods
Los Angeles, CA (March 16, 2009) — Nominations for the first annual Streamy Awards were announced today by the International Academy of Web Television, an independent organization of digital entertainment leaders created to recognize excellence in original episodic Web television programming. The Streamy Awards is the first live awards show dedicated to honoring the actors, directors, writers, cinematographers, editors, music and production talent behind some of the best original content on the Web.
Battlestar Galactica: The Face of the Enemy, a 10-part Web series starring Grace Park and Alessandro Juliani from the SciFi Channel’s series Battlestar Galactica received multiple nominations, including Best Dramatic Web Series, Best Male Actor in a Dramatic Web Series, Best Writing for a Dramatic Web Series and Best Original Music in a Web Series. Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, celebrated television creator Joss Whedon’s breakout musical comedy Web series, is up for awards in nine categories, including Best Comedy Web Series, Best Directing in a Comedy Web Series, and Best Original Music in a Web Series. The Shatner Project, a Web series chronicling the real life adventures of William Shatner, received a nomination for Best Reality Web Series.
On Saturday, March 28th, 2009 at 7:30 PM, winners in 15 categories will be awarded in front of a live audience at the Wadsworth Theatre in Los Angeles, and streamed online for audiences around the world. Awards in craft categories will be presented at a special ceremony on Thursday, March 26th, excerpts from which will be integrated into the live show. Members of the International Academy of Web Television reviewed episodic Web television shows that were submitted by the public from December 18, 2008 though January 23, 2009 and voted on the final nominees for each category. Over 100,000 public submissions were received. Additionally, ten of the submitted series will go head-to-head starting next week to compete for the coveted Audience Choice Award.
